KENOSHA, WI – After winning its second-straight MCVL regular season title, Carthage College claimed the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Tournament title for the second-straight season with a 3-0 sweep of Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Saturday.
The No. 1 seeded Red Men (27-1) advanced to the title game with a 3-0 victory over fourth-seed Dominican (17-9) on Friday. In the other semifinal match, the Raiders (18-8) defeated third-seed Lakeland (17-9) 3-1.
In Saturday's championship, junior Griffin Shields (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) blasted a team-high 14 kills with four digs and three total blocks, posting a hitting percentage of .355 to lead Carthage.
Shields earned MCVL Tournament MVP honors for his efforts this weekend.
MSOE received 10 kills and three digs from sophomore Sam Stealey (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers) in the loss.
With the win, the Red Men, ranked No. 3 nationally, are in position to earn an at-large spot to the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship. The full field will be announced on Monday, April 11 at 9AM (CST) via NCAA.com.
