KENOSHA, WI – After winning the inaugural MCVL regular season title, Carthage claimed the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Tournament title with a 3-0 sweep of Mount St. Joseph University Saturday.
With the win, the Red Men are in position to possibly earn an at-large spot to the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Chamionship. The full field will be announced on Monday, April 13 at 10AM (EST) via NCAA.com.
The No. 1 seeded Red Men advanced to the title game with a 3-0 victory over fourth-seed MSOE on Friday. In the other semifinal match, the Lions defeated third-seed Dominican 3-2.
In Saturday's championship, sophomore Griffin Shields (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) blasted a team-high 15 kills with seven digs, posting a hitting percentage of .393 to lead Carthage. Mount St. Joseph received 13 kills and nine digs from sophomore Alex Vohland (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) in the loss.
